Guess who’s back

The last 10 weeks have been uniquely memorable. I think 10 weeks of I-Banking internship may as well be equal to 20 weeks of regular internship given the hours. Until this summer, I did not realize that I could function very well on just 4 hrs or less of sleep every day. Everything you’ve heard about I-Banking is true – both good and bad. You have to love it to do it. I learned a lot in an extremely fast paced environment full of very smart and competitive folks. I’ll do it again in a heartbeat. It’s good to be back in Chapel Hill and I have been really really catching up on my sleep. The summer turned out to be one of those moments in the history of financial markets that industry veterans love referencing. A few years from now, I’ll be able to say Ahhh it was the summer of ‘07 and I was there when everything was all nice and sweet with deals getting leveraged to high heavens and records getting broken before you can say PIK-TOGGLE. But then overnight, everything dried up! No more deals, no more convenant lite, no more hiring?? Sub prime woes and all that hedge funds stuff aside, all I care about now is how does this affect MBA hiring? Uncle Bernanke to the rescue?
For now, I am glad to be back in school among friends who I’m sure all have a lot of war stories. I’m also looking forward to meeting the first year students. I am still busy moving into my new apartment. I do not like moving. Did I mention how much I appreciate my sleep now?
