Exams, Wall Street et al
It’s seems like eternity since I last posted here and as you can imagine a lot has been going on.
Last week was spent on Mod1 exams. This is supposed to be our week off but it has been a working vacation. Most of the clubs are currently away on one Career Trek or the other. I went on the Finance Club Trek to Wall Street where we visited 8 banks in 2 days. Interestingly, none of the banks was actually on Wall Street. The city of New York itself is always an interesting place considering that I was coming for Chapel Hill. Some of my classmates got the opportunity to see the shooting of a Will Smith movie on the streets of NY.
We kicked off the bank visits with the only boutique shop visited. I’ve added some words to my arsenal after hearing them over and over again at almost every I-Bank e.g. momentum, platform, our people etc. Not that there’s anything wrong with these, I’m just debating whether its one of those buzzwords to drop when interview time swings around. The last Bank we visited on the first day of the visit treated us to a cocktail party in a room that had an incredible view of the city. I couldn’t help but wonder if I’ll have access to that particular room if I get a job with them. Probably once a year. Another bank hosted us in a room with a beautiful view of the statue of liberty.
We had an alumni reception on Monday evening with an impressive turnout. There were recent and no so recent alums in attendance. There were also prospective students from the NY area. My classmates on the marketing trek joined us to make it all a great evening.
I had a good time out here and expanded my network. I’ll still have to come back here twice or so before January. Up next...... trip to Charlotte.
